TicketSmarter WAC Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – UTRGV's Samuel de Felipe Garcia and Chicago State's Dianna Borodina and NMSU's men's doubles team Luis Flores and Martin Simecek and UTRGV's women's doubles team Sandra Putz and Katarina Sasaroga have been named the Men's and Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week for February 17-23.

De Felipe Garcia, a sophomore from Oviendo, Spain, is on a three-match win streak at No. 2 after this week. On Friday, he faced a DePaul opponent where he won his match to two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Later that day against his Eastern Washington opponent he won in two sets (6-0,6-1) as well. His match on saturday went unfinished with him and his opponent each earning a set.

Borodina, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia, went 1-0 at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 1 this week. On Thursday against Western Michigan, Borodina faced her opponent at the No. 2 slot taking the match, 6-1, 6-3. Her match on Saturday Wright State at No. 1 went almost the same way, with her winning her match 6-2, 6-4.

Flores, a senior from Toluco, Mexico, and Simecek, a sophomore from Prerov, Czech Republic, during the H-E-B Tournament went 3-0 this week at No. 2 to remain undefeated this 2020 season, moving to 4-0. On Friday against both Troy and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, the duo won their matches 6-4. On Saturday the duo took on a Eastern Washington duo and won 6-3.

Putz, a sophomore from Munich, Germany, and Sasarago, a sophomore from Gothenburg, Sweden, secured their match against TAMUK this week, winning 6-1.

Other male singles nominees: GCU's Freddie Grant went 1-1 this week... Kansas City's Tom Kruse won his match in three sets at No. 2... NMSU's Nicolas Buitrago went 2-0 this week.

Other female singles nominees: UTRGV's Ana Platisa won her match, at No. 5, in two sets (7-6, 6-1).

Other male doubles nominee: GCU's Justin Cvitanovic and Valentin Lang won their match against their Omaha opponents this week at No. 2 ...UTRGV's Samuel De Felipe Garcia and Michael Loyd went 2-0 this week.

Other female doubles nominees: Seattle U's Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto went 1-1 this week at No. 3.
