WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chicago State's Dianna Borodina and UTRGV's women's doubles team Sandra Putz and Katarina Sasaroga have been named the Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week for February 17-23.
Borodina, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia, went 1-0 at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 1 this week. On Thursday against Western Michigan, Borodina faced her opponent at the No. 2 slot taking the match, 6-1, 6-3. Her match on Saturday Wright State at No. 1 went almost the same way, with her winning her match 6-2, 6-4.
Putz, a sophomore from Munich, Germany, and Sasaroga, a sophomore from Gothenburg, Sweden, secured their match against TAMUK this week, winning 6-1.
Other female singles nominees: UTRGV's Ana Platisa won her match, at No. 5, in two sets (7-6, 6-1).
Other female doubles nominees: Seattle U's Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto went 1-1 this week at No. 3.
THIS WEEK IN WAC WOMEN'S TENNIS
Chicago State
The Chicago State women's tennis team fell to Western Michigan, 6-1. The Cougars' Diana Borodina collected the team's sole point in her singles match at No. 2 (6-1, 6-3). The team defeated Wright State, 4-3. The Cougars were not able to win in doubles play but came out of singles play with for wins. Borodina, now at No. 1, won 6-2, 6-4, Katarina Drazic won at No. 3 (7-5, 6-0), Susanna Andres defeated her opponent at No. 5 (7-6, 5-7, 6-3) and Isidora Krnjak won at No. 6 (6-4, 5-7, 7-5).
SEATTLE U
The Seattle U women's team was only able to secure the doubles point with duos Kyra Jung and Michelle Bader at No. 2 (7-6(7-5)). and Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto at No. 3 (6-3).
The team also faced Gonzaga, to drop 4-0.
UTRGV
The women's team fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville, to drop 5-2. The doubles point was secured with duos Katarina Sasaroga and Sandra Putz at No. 1 and Valeria Montero and Kristyna Mamicova at No. 3. Ana Platisa was the only Vaquero that was able to secure a singles point.
