TicketSmarter WAC Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced
DENVER – Seattle U's Julian Kodama and Grand Canyon's Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 9 – March 15.
Kodama, a sophomore infielder from Edmonds, Wash., played an integral part in the Redhawks' 10-2 victory over Saint Martin's. The sophomore was 3-for-4 on the day and accounted for four of SU's 10 runs on the game, driving in two while crossing home twice himself. It was his sixth multiple-hit game of the season and he pushed his reached base streak to 15 games.
Cooper-Vassalakis, a sophomore right-hander from Canberra, Australia, made the most of his only appearance on the week. Against 15th-ranked Arkansas, the Australia entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and kept the Razorbacks in check for the remainder of the game. Allowing just one run on two hits, he struck out seven and walked two in the 6-1 loss. On the season, Cooper-Vassalakis has a 1.23 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 14.2 innings pitched.
Other Hitter of the Week nominees: Grand Canyon's Juan Colato hit .375 in a two-game series with 15th-ranked Arkansas, posting two RBIs and three runs scored … Sacramento State's Dawsen Bacho was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in a midweek loss at San Francisco … UT Rio Grande Valley's Elijah Alexander reached base three times and was 2-for-3 from the plate in a 4-1 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi … Utah Valley's Kade Poulsen was 3-for-4 with three runs scored in a high-scoring 17-12 loss to Air Force on Wednesday afternoon.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees: Seattle U's Jarrod Billig posted his third-consecutive victory of the season, allowing just one hit over three innings with three strikeouts in a 10-2 midweek win over Saint Martin's … UT Rio Grande Valley's Cannon Davis needed just nine pitches to toss a perfect inning in UTRGV's 4-1 win over rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
