TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER – UT Rio Grande Valley's Trelynn Tyler has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 24-March 1.
Tyler, a junior guard from Omaha, Neb., led the Vaqueros to an undefeated weekend behind a combined 38 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Against CSU Bakersfield, she tied her career-high in field goals made (10) and three pointers made (5) as she put up 27 points to lead UTRGV to a 74-65 win over the 'Runners. She backed up that performance with 11 points, seven boards and two steals in just 27 minutes to lead her team to a 66-47 win over second-place Grand Canyon. For the week, Tyler shot 41.7 percent from the field and an impressive 46.2 percent from distance.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Lexy Ram averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, two assists and two blocks for the week, including a 24-point outburst in a win over Seattle U… Grand Canyon's Tavia Rowell led the Lopes in scoring with a combined 31 points during their two game road stretch… Kansas City's Ericka Mattingly led the Roos in points (16), rebounds (7), assists (8) and steals (4) as they took down Chicago State 85-50 to take sole possession of the top spot in the WAC… NM State's Aaliyah Prince helped lead the Aggies to two wins, averaging 16 points and seven rebounds highlighted by a 20-point, 10-rebound outing in an overtime win over CSU Bakersfield… Seattle U's Joana Alves shot better than 65 percent from the field to finish with 34 points and the new Redhawks single-game scoring record… Utah Valley's Eve Braslis finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and her second double-double of the season to lead the Wolverines to a win over California Baptist.
