TicketSmarter WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER – California Baptist's De'jon Davis has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 24 through March 1.
Davis, a senior forward from Oakland, Calif., was nearly unstoppable in a pair of big home wins. On Wednesday against Utah Valley, the 6-7 senior put up 21 points to go with 16 rebounds in a 73-66 win. He followed that up with 31 points, including four three pointers, and 15 rebounds in an 88-87 overtime win over Seattle U on Saturday. On the season, he is nearly averaging a double-double with 11.9 points per game and a WAC-best 9.9 rebounds per game.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Taze Moore shot .636 from the field with 18 points in a 79-59 win over UT Rio Grande Valley, also adding another 18 points in a loss to NM State on Saturday … Grand Canyon's Alessandro Lever averaged 17.5 points per game in a pair of home losses to NM State and UT Rio Grande Valley … Kansas City's Javan White scored 16 points with eight rebounds in an 80-58 blowout win over Chicago State … NM State's Johnny McCants helped the Aggies stay perfect in WAC play, averaging 11.0 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game in road wins at Grand Canyon and CSU Bakersfield … Seattle U's Terrell Brown matched a career-high with 31 points in an 88-87 overtime loss at California Baptist … UT Rio Grande Valley's Lesley Varner II helped the Vaqueros pick up a big road win at Grand Canyon, scoring 32 points on 9-of-16 shooting in an 88-80 win.
