TicketSmarter WAC Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – UTRGV's Samuel de Felipe Garcia and Chicago State's Dianna Borodina and UT Rio Grande Valley's men's doubles team Zane Korhs and George Hutchings and NM State's women's doubles team Gavi Kalaga and Harsha Challa have been named the Men's and Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week for February 17-23.

De Felipe Garcia, a sophomore from Oviendo, Spain, went 2-1 this week at No. 2 with each of his matches going to three sets. His first win of the week against his Lamar opponent (7-6, 4-6, 6-4) added to his win streak, tallying to four. De Felipe Garcia's win streak was snapped after his loss (6-7, 6-2, 7-6) to his Nicholls State opponent. He did not let the loss turn into a streak by winning against New Orleans, 7-5, 3-6, 10-4.

Borodina, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia, went 2-0 at at No. 2 this week. Against Green Bay, Borodina had to fight for her win, 6-7 (0-2), 6-4, 6-3. On Saturday, against her Eastern Illnois opponent, Borodina took the match in two sets, 6-4, 6-2.  Borodina is now 6-0 in her last six matches.

Korhs, a junior from Dalla, Texas, and Hutchings, a sophomore from Lancashire, England, are now 4-1 this spring season after they went 2-0 this week. The duo faced a Lamar duo and pushed out the win, 7-6. Against their Nicholls' opponents, the win came easier. 6-2. Against New Orleans, the match was clinched at 4-4.

Kalaga, a junior from Bhubaneswar, India, and Challa, a junior from Hyderabad, India, went 2-0 this week at No. 1. The duo was about to secure a win against a Wyoming duo, 7-5 and a win against a Montana State duo, 6-3.

Other male singles nominees: Chicago State's Javier Sanchez Pradillo went 2-0 at No. 3... Kansas City's Diego Giraldo won his match at No. 1 (6-4, 7-5)... Seattle U's Colton Weeldreyer went 1-1 at No. 2.

Other female singles nominees: GCU's Ladovica Infantino went 1-2 this week, her win was against Cal Poly (6-3,6-3)... Kansas City's Yana Grechkina went 1-1 this week... NM State's Neus Torregrosa went 2-0, to win both her matches in two sets... UTRGV's Katarina Sasaroga won her match, at No. 1, in two sets (6-1,6-0).

Other male doubles nominee: Kanas City's Austin Williams and Jake Fraunfelder won their match against their Rockhurst opponents this week at No. 2 (6-1)...NM State's Jordy Visser and Nicolas Buitrago went 1-1 this week.

Other female doubles nominees: GCU's Natasha Puehse and Jana Weiss went 1-0 this week at No. 1... UTRGV's Katarina Sasaroga and Sandra Putz went 1-0 this week at No. 1.
