WAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Postseason Honors Announced
DENVER – Following a vote of the head coaches, the 2019-20 WAC women's swimming and diving individual awards have been named. CSU Bakersfield's Autumn D'Arcy was named WAC Swimmer of the Year and Grand Canyon's Sara Lameiro Castellanos has been named WAC Diver of the Year. CSU Bakersfield's Mikayla Popham earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors wile Northern Arizona's Andy Johns was named WAC Swimming Coach of the Year and NAU's Nikki Huffman was named WAC Diving Coach of the Year.
D'Arcy earns honors after winning three events at last week's WAC Swimming and Diving Championship in Houston. She earned the gold medal in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.15, the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.61 and the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.56.
Lameiro Castellanos won two of the three diving events at last week's WAC Championship, earning first on the 3-meter with a score of 319.85 and on the platform with a score of 231.15.
Popham was named WAC Freshman of the Year after picking up two conference titles in her first year of collegiate swimming. She earned the gold medal in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:52.55 and in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.36. She was also second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.64.
Johns earned WAC Swimming Coach of the Year honors for the seventh time after leading the Lumberjacks to their seventh-straight WAC title. A graduate of East Carolina, he took over the NAU program in 1996 after training sprinters at Clemson following three years as head coach at Northeast Missouri State.
Huffman earns WAC Diving Coach of the Year honors for the seventh time. As an athlete, she was a seven-time All-American at Oakland University and has also coached divers at her alma mater and Clemson.
