DENVER - After completing just the third perfect season in WAC men's basketball history, the NM State Aggies will be the top seed at the Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament presented by TicketSmarter, beginning on March 12 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
The Aggies head to Vegas with the nation's second-longest winning streak at 19 games and will take a WAC-record 31-game win streak into next year's league schedule. NM State is led by 13.2 points per game from Trevelin Queen and 12.8 points per game from Jabari Rice.
The second seed will be UT Rio Grande Valley after the Vaqueros knocked off California Baptist, 79-76, in overtime. UTRGV is led in scoring by Lesley Varner II, who will head to Vegas averaging 15.6 points per game. Jordan Jackson is adding 15.0 points per game while Javon Levi chips in 14.4 points per game to go with 6.8 assists per game.
Seattle U takes the third seed. SU is led by 20.7 points per game from Terrell Brown. Morgan Means is adding 12.6 points per game for the Redhawks.
The fourth seed goes to Grand Canyon. The Lopes are led by 15.7 points per game from Alessandro Lever and 15.5 points per game from Carlos Johnson. Newcomers Mikey Dixon and Jovan Blacksher Jr. have also been strong for GCU, averaging 11.8 and 10.7 points per game respectively.
Fifth-seed Kansas City is paced by the quartet of Brandon McKissic (11.0 ppg), Jordan Giles (10.5 ppg), Javan White (10.0 ppg) and Rob Whitfield (9.8 ppg). The Roos will take on Grand Canyon at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The sixth-seed and Seattle U's first round opponent will be Utah Valley. Isaiah White leads the Wolverines with 14.5 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Brandon Averette is adding 12.8 points per game and TJ Washington chips in 12.4 points per game.
CSU Bakersfield will be the seventh seed. The 'Runners are led by 11.5 points per game from Taze Moore. Czar Perry has a team-high 119 assists on the year as well. CSUB will open their final WAC tournament against second-seed UT Rio Grande Valley, beginning at 6 p.m. local time on Thursday.
Chicago State is the eighth-seed and will take on regular season champion NM State to open the tournament on Thursday at noon local time. The Cougars are led by 15.4 points per game from Xavier Johnson and 12.2 points per game from Andrew Lewis.
