Three Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District® Honors
DENVER - A trio of WAC baseball players got some welcomed good news as two players from NM State and one from Seattle U were named CoSIDA Academic All-District®.
NM State senior infielder Tristan Peterson earns honors witha 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as an engineering major. The 6-1 utility player will have some career choices to make as he is considered among those players who could be drafted during the condensed MLB draft in June. Peterson hit four doubles and had a home run in 16 games for the 12-4 Aggies.
Joining Peterson on the Academic All-District® list is teammate Nick Gonzales. The junior, who is considered a top-five prospect in next month's MLB draft, holds a 3.33 grade-point average in his three years as an Aggie. Through 16 games, Gonzales had 12 home runs in sixteen games played with a .448 batting average and 36 RBIs.
Seattle U's Kyle Sherick was also honored, posting a 3.96 grade-point everage as an engineering major. Appearing in 16 games for the Redhawks, he had a pair of doubles to go with six RBIs in the pandemic-shortened season.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. In addition, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
