UVU’s Query and SU’s Nance Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District®

DENVER – Utah Valley's Basia Query and Seattle U's Carley Nance have been selected to the 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Query, a senior catcher from Henderson, Nev., holds a 3.77 grade-point average as a marketing major. Through 19 games in the 2020 season, she batted .317, brought in nine runs and hit five doubles. During her senior season, she ranked fourth in the conference in batting average, slugging percentage (.397) and on-base percentage (.386). She ranked third in the WAC in hits (20) and RBIs (9). Query slashed .315/.367/.488 during her four-year career with the Wolverines.

Nance, a redshirt junior left-hander from Maple Valley, Wash., earned her spot on the All-District Team as a designated player. In the classroom, she currently has a 3.40 GPA as a criminal justice major. She finished the 2020 season with a 4.20 earned run average including a 10-strikeout outing in the Redhawks season opener against Arizona. At the plate, Nance batted .275, recorded nine RBIs and hit two home runs. In 2019, she was named First Team All-WAC and was voted WAC Tournament MVP.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. In addition, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
