GCU's Mechals Goes in Fourth Round of MLB Draft

PHOENIX - Grand Canyon ace Kade Mechals heard his named called on the second day of the 2020 Major League Baseball draft as the Chicago White Sox selected the right-hander in the fourth round with the 112th pick.

Mechals, who was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 40th round of the 2019 MLB Draft, made three appearances for the Lopes in 2020, going 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. His best game came on opening night against 22nd-ranked Oklahoma State, striking out eight and allowing just one run on three hits over five innings to pick up the win.

Prior to the 2020 season, which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mechals was named WAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
