INDIANAPOLIS – It was announced Monday that California Baptist's Caitlyn Harper will serve as a representative on the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group. The group is the first of its kind at the NCAA and will serve as a vehicle for the voices of women's basketball on key initiatives, legislation and other issues.

Harper, a redshirt sophomore forward from Hartland, Wis., led the Lancers in scoring last season at 16.2 points per game. She was also named the WAC Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 4-10 as she averaged 18.0 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game in a pair of CBU wins.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association worked closely with the NCAA to form the group. This group will have a direct connection to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and will serve as a path for information to and from the WBCA moving forward.

"This is such an important time for us to provide a forum for women's basketball student-athletes across the country to talk to one another and for us to listen," said Lynn Holzman, vice president of women's basketball at the NCAA. "In support of women's basketball strategic plan, we will listen to what is important and happening with our student-athletes, and we will listen to their advice about the ongoing growth and development of our sport."

The group consists of current NCAA Division I women's basketball student-athletes from all 32 conferences who were nominated through the WBCA NCAA Division I Conference Captains program. Group members were selected to serve as a representative for all women's basketball players in their respective conferences.
