TicketSmarter WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER – Grand Canyon's Asbjørn Midtgaard has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 4 through January 10.
Midtgaard, a senior center from Helsingør, Denmark, led the Lopes to a road sweep at Tarleton to help GCU open WAC play with a 2-0 record. In a pair a games, he averaged 18.5 points per game, 10 rebounds per game and 2.5 blocks per game. After scoring 19 points with nine rebounds on Friday, he came back 24 hours later to score 18 points with 11 rebounds and a school DI record five blocks. On the year, the transfer from Wichita State is averaging 15.0 points per game, 9.9 rebounds per game and posts a WAC-best .731 field goal percentage.
Other nominees included: Seattle U's Riley Grigsby had 24 points to go alongside six rebounds and two blocks in a 98-63 non-conference win over Saint Martin's … UT Rio Grande Valley's LaQuan Butler scored a career-high 20 points to help the Vaqueros earn a 96-67 non-conference win over St. Mary's (Texas) … Utah Valley's Fardaw Aimaq continued his domination in Orem, averaging 17.5 points per game and 15.0 rebounds per game as the Wolverines earned a pair of wins over California Baptist to open WAC play.
