TicketSmarter WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Announced

DENVER – Utah Valley's Fardaws Aimaq has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 11 through January 17.

Aimaq, a redshirt-sophomore center from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, scored a career-high 29 points to go with 14 rebounds and four blocks in a 93-92 overtime win at Seattle U on Friday night. The transfer from Mercer earned his eighth double-double of the season and moved his rebounding average to a nation-best 15.1 per game. He was also accurate on his shots, making eight of 12 attempts from the field and 13-of-15 on free throws.

Other nominees included: California Baptist's Gorjok Gak averaged a double-double to lead the Lancers to their first WAC sweep of the season, averaging 15.5 points, 16.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in wins over Tarleton … Dixie State's Cameron Gooden put up 11.0 points per game as the Trailblazers dropped a home game to New Mexico before falling in their WAC debut at UT Rio Grande Valley … Grand Canyon's Asbjørn Midtgaard averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as the Lopes made easy work of Bethesda in a weekend sweep … UT Rio Grande Valley's Javon Levi picked up where he left off after missing over a month due to injury, averaging 14.0 points and 9.5 assists per game in a home sweep over Dixie State.
