TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Northern Colorado's Anna Austin and Northern Arizona's Victoria Knapp have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 18 through Jan. 24.
Austin, a junior from Arvada, Colo., dominated in the Bears' final home meet of the year, helping UNC earn a 160-102 victory over Denver. She claimed the top spot in three individual events on top of leading her relay team to a victory. Austin swept the long distance events, winning the 1000 free (10 minutes and 36.16 seconds) and the 500 free (5:10.01). She also recorded a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly, reaching the wall at 2:07.92. In addition, Austin swam the third leg of the 400 free relay as the UNC squad picked up the win with a time of 3:34.52.
Knapp, a freshman from Mesa, Ariz., swept the boards as the Lumberjacks hosted fellow WAC foe Grand Canyon. Knapp posted the top score in the 1-meter with a score of 279.80. She also picked up the win on the 3-meter board as she posted a 301.05. In both events, Knapp earned NCAA qualifying scores, besting the mark by more than 14 points in each.
Other swimmer nominees: California Baptist's Martha Aguilar paced the field in the 1000 free (10:37.93) and turned in a third-place finish in the 200 back (2:14.83)… Seattle U's Alexa Hoeper tallied a trio of podium finishes, including taking first in the 100 back (1:00.69) and 200 back (2:05.07).
Other diver nominated: California Baptist's Kiree Lowe tallied a pair of top-2 dives last week as she picked up first in the 1-meter (260.40) and second in the 3-meter (215.20).
