TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Grand Canyon's singles player Natasha Puehse and Tarleton's doubles team Rose Watanabe and Celia Vaudiau have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week for Jan. 18 through Jan. 24.
Pueshe, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., picked up her first singles win of the season as the Lopes took on Arizona over the weekend. Puehse controlled her match at No. 1 as she took down the Wildcats Talya Zandberg (6-2, 6-2) to earn one of GCU's two points against Arizona.
Watanabe, a freshman from Duvall, Wash., and teammate Vaudiau, a freshman from Blazny, France, secured the first doubles point in Tarleton's Division I era as they outlasted Sam Houston State's Constandena Nicolau and Andrijana Brkic, 7-6 (4-0).
Other singles nominee: Tarleton's Celia Vaudiau claimed the first singles point in the Texans' short Division I history as she defeated Sam Houston State's Andrijana Brkic (6-4, 6-4).
