TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Northern Colorado's Katelyn Bergin and Grand Canyon's Lizzy McKnight has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 6 through Oct. 11.
Bergin, a sophomore from Stockport, England, led the Bears to victory with a career record of three individual wins against NM State, Saturday. Bergin swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay (1:44.62) that won the race with more than a second lead. She then opened her individual run with a win in 100 back with a time of 56.88, 0.25 seconds off her lifetime best (56.43). Then proceeded to win the 100 fly with a time of 56.62, 1.89 seconds off her lifetime best (54.73) and clocking a top-100 time in the nation for this season according to CollegeSwimming. She ended the week with another win in the 200 IM (2:08.19).
McKnight, a sophomore from Kent, Wash., placed fourth and third in the 1-meter (266.55) and 3-meter (273.15) respectively against the strong Louisiana State team, Saturday. She scored a NCAA zone-qualifying score in the 1-meter which is more than 10 points better than her score in last season's WAC Diving Championships (255.00).
Other swimmer nominee: Grand Canyon's Emily Muteti dominated the Lopes' victories against the strong Louisiana State, Saturday. Muteti gave the Lopes their only win in the 50 freestyle (23.69), clocking a top-100 time in the nation for this season according to CollegeSwimming ... Seattle U's Tessa Oliver was part of the Redhawks' relays placing fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:58.52) and second in the 300 butterfly relay (3:02.11), 300 breastroke relay (3:31.67) and 300 medley relay (3:09.82) in the Logger Relays, Saturday.
Other diver nominee: Northern Colorado's Angeline Settle placed fifth and fourth in the 1-meter (173.25) and 3-meter (185.25) contributing to the Bears dual win over NM State, Saturday.
