CBU’s Harper, SFA’s Visscher Named to Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Watch List
Official Release
DENVER – California Baptist's Caitlyn Harper and Stephen F. Austin's Stephanie Visscher are among the 25 members on the preseason watch list for the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats. In its third year of existence, the Becky Hammon award preseason watch list includes representatives from 22 schools and 13 conferences.
Harper, a redshirt sophomore from Hartland, Wis., is entering her third season with the Lancers. Last year, she was named to the All-WAC Second Team while also earning WAC Tournament MVP and WNIT All-Region honors. During the 2020-21 season, she averaged a team-high 14.3 points per game to help lead the Lancers to a 26-1 overall record and a 14-0 record in league play.
Visscher, a senior guard from Lulea, Sweden, comes to the WAC off a career year in which she earned All-Southland Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team awards. Starting all 27 games a season ago, Visscher led the Ladyjacks in scoring at 12.6 points per game to help her squad finish with a 24-3 overall record.
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." In January, 15 players will be named to the midseason watch list. The 10 semifinalists will be announced in February, with five finalists being announced in early March. The winner will be announced in late March 2022.
Hammon was a three-time All-American during her career at Colorado State and led the Rams to the Sweet 16 in 1999, the program's only appearance to date. She was signed by the New York Liberty in 1999 and traded to the San Antonio Stars in 2007, where she played the rest of her career.
Hammon is also the WAC's all-time leading scorer and was named WAC Mountain Division Player of the Year three consecutive seasons. Additionally, she was named WAC Tournament MVP in 1996.
