MEN'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: SEPT. 29 - OCT. 4
Air Force's Wen Zhang has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer the Week, respectively, for Sept 29 through Oct 4.
 
Zhang, a junior from Dothan, Ala., won first place in the 200 free and earned two runner-ups in 100 free and 500 free in The Intermountain Shootout at Grand Junction, Colo., Friday and Saturday. His altitude adjusted 200 free (1:36.70) is currently the fastest in the nation according to CollegeSwimming. His times for 500 free is currently third (4:29.94) and his 100 free is eighth (4:29.94).
 
Other swimmer nominee: Wyoming's Matt Lang started his collegiate career strong, he was the Cowboys' opening leg for the 100 free relay that won first at DU Relays, Saturday.
 
WOMEN'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: SEPT. 29 - OCT. 4
Northern Colorado's Maddy Moore and Idaho's Heather Hopkins has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 29 through Oct. 4.
 
Moore, a senior from Sandys, Bermuda, won first place in three events on the Intermountain Shootout at Grand Junction, Colo., Friday and Saturday. She showed sprint expertise by winning the 50 fly (25.20), 50 free (23.35), and 100 free (51.01). Her 50 fly time is currently ranked sixth in the nation according to CollegeSwimming.
 
Hopkins, a freshman from Puyallup, Wash., opened her collegiate career strong by winning the 1 meter diving (275.70) and placing third in the 3 meter (235.93) on their dual meet against Washington State, Saturday. 
 
Other swimmer nominee: Dixie State's Paulina Sansores recorded the second-fastest 1000 free in program history with a fifth-place altitude adjusted time of 10:30.07. 
 
Other diver nominee: Northern Colorado's Angeline Settle performed a solid collegiate debut placing fourteenth in the 3 meter (190.75) and twelveth in the 1 meter (189.55).
 
AIR FORCE
The Falcons finsished third in a five-team field at the Intermountain Shootout, Friday and Saturday. They started the meet with a win as Wen Zhang, Matthew Lattin, Andrerw Limpert and Corey Shepard snagged first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:21.50). Later Zhang and Shepard both won individual events in the 200 freestyle (1:37.90) and 50 freestyle (20.30) respectively. Zhang finished runner-up in the 500 freestyle (4:34.94) and the 100 freestyle (44.77). The Falcons also recorded other top-three finishes; Andrew Limpert in 200 butterly (1:52.16), Adam Grimm in 200 IM (1:54.82) and Shepard in 100 freestyle (45.33). In diving, Alex Kenyon  (289.60) and Jack Macceca (271.15) finished second and third, respectively in the one-meter dive.
 
DIXIE STATE
The Trailblazers start off their season placing sixth out of nine at the Intermountain Shootout, Friday and Saturday. Paulina Sansores recorded the second-fastest 1000 freestyle in program history (10:30.07). Akalia Bostock recorded the fifth fastest 400 IM time in program history (4:33.67). Danyael Cuison recorded the third fastest 50 butterfly time in program history (27.16). Skyler Lyon (30.91) and Kathryn Carter (31.45) recorded the second and third fastest in program history, respectively.
 
IDAHO
The Vandal swim team lost to Washington State, 128-166, Saturday. The meet started with Ani Husabi, Holly Keir, Rylie Jones, and Natalie Crocker finishing first in the 200 medley relay (1:47.18). Zoe Froh finished first in the 1000 freestyle (10:39.35). Jones added another first-place finish in the 100 butterly (57.29). Alexa Teneyck finished second-place in the 200 freestyle (1:56.70) while Jones finished third (1:57.94) in the event. Kaling Phung (57.90) and Morgan Votava (58.35) finshed second and third, respectively, in the 100 backstroke.
 
NORTHERN COLORADO
The Bears outswam nine competitors at the Intermountain Shootout, Firday and Saturday. Day one started with Ali Jackson, Katelyn Bergin, Payten Iriwin, and Madelyn Moore winning the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.79). Chelaine van der Westhuizen finished fifth in the 100 breastroke (1:05.53). Relay champions Moore and Jackson finished first (23.35) and fifth (24.58), respectively, in the 50 freestyle. Katelyn Bergin finished second in the 100 backstroke (57.21). In the evening, Anna Austin finished third in the 1000 freestyle (10:34.94). 
 
Day two started with another relay win by Bergin, Westhuizen, Payten Irwin and Moore in the 400 medley relay (3:49.19). Then Iriwn and Austin finished first (2:05.45) and second (2:06.38), respectively, in the 200 butterfly. the Bears picked it up, as Emina Pasukan, Westhuizen, and Bryanna Ungs finished first (30.07), second (30.36) and third (30.39) in the 50 breastroke. Moore added another first-place finish in the 100 freestyle (53.28), followed by Irwin (56.55) and Bergin (56.99) finishing first and second in the 100 butterly. Westhuizen racked up more points finishing second-place in the 200 breastroke (2:22.52) and the Bears closed the meet with another relay win as Giulia Pavanello, Jackson, Lily Mayer and Moore finished first-place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.28).
 
WYOMING
The Cowboys took two first-place finishes at the DU Relays, Saturday. Matt Lang, Jakob Borrman, Quinn Teller and Grant Sloan touched first in the 100 freestyle relay (38.20) while Miller Browne, Cameron Murphy, Thomas Diaz and David Mihalic won the 400 medley relay (3:35.16).
