GCU, SU Headed Back to NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS - After a wild WAC Tournament, two teams heard their names called during the NCAA Men's Soccer Selection Show. Grand Canyon, who won the regular season title, will play host to Denver in the opening round while Seattle U will head down I-5 to take on Portland.
The Lopes (15-3-1) earn an at-large bid and head to their second-straight NCAA Tournament and will get to open the tournament at home. GCU will take on Denver (9-3-5) on Thursday after the Pioneers earned the Summit League bid with a pair of penalty kick wins over Kansas City and Oral Roberts. The winner of the GCU-DU tilt will head east to take on Clemson in the second round this weekend.
Seattle U (13-7-1) won the WAC automatic qualifier for the fifth time in nine seasons and will take on a familiar foe as the Redhawks will make the drive down to the Rose City to take on Portland. SU and UP faced off earlier this season with the Pilots earning a 3-2 come-from-behind win on Sep. 17. The winner of that match will head back to the Emerald City to take on second-seed Washington. The Redhawks also played the Huskies earlier this year, falling 2-1 in overtime.
Oregon State earned the top-seed overall in the tournament which will reach a crescendo on Dec. 10 and 12 at the College Cup in Cary, N.C.
Times and broadcast details for both opening-round matches will be posted on WACsports.com when available.
