TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Grand Canyon's Aleksandra Wegrzynowska and Idaho's Emily Mack has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week for Nov. 10 through 15.
Wegrzynowska, a freshman from Wroclaw, Poland, racked up five wins across two back-to-back meets this past week. She opened the week with a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:41.83) and 200 butterfly (2:05.75), on their dual meet against Washington State, Friday. She came back the next day to win the 200 freestyle with this season's top WAC time of 1:53.14, the 500 freestyle (5:09.40) and the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:30.28 second fastest in the WAC this season. Her three wins put her as the leader in points on Saturday's win over Idaho.
Mack, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, contributed two wins on the Vandals' dual meet against Grand Canyon, Saturday. She opened up the week breaking the 300 point-mark in the 3-meter (303 .83) qualifying her for the NCAA zone. She then closed the week with a win in the 1-meter (262.28) contributing a total of 18 points for the Vandals.
Other swimmer nominee: Idaho's Ani Husaby won the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.80 that puts her third in WAC top times for this season while also clocking season bests in the 200 backstroke (2:05.07) and 100 butterfly (58.80) on Satruday's dual meet against Grand Canyon ... Seattle U's Danika Himes won the 200 backstroke with a season best time of 2:10.33 and also won the 100 breastroke on Saturday's dual meet against Puget Sound.
Other diver nominee: Grand Canyon's Abigail Erickson got two runner-up finishes in the 3-meter (294.08), with a NCAA zone qualifying score, and 1-meter (238.95) contributing a total of eight points on the Lopes' Saturday win over Idaho.
