TicketSmarter WAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week Announced

DENVER – Seattle U's Emeka Udenyi has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week and NM State's Marchelus Avery has been named TicketSmarter WAC Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week for December 20 through December 26.

Udenyi, a junior forward from Oakland, Calif., collected his first triple-double as part of a 100-68 win over Northwest (Wash.). The junior finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in 28 minutes on the floor. He was efficient shooting the ball, making five of eight shots from the field, along with one of two free throws, to get into double-digit scoring. Defensively, he collected 10 of his 12 rebounds on Northwest misses and he turned the ball over just one time while dishing out the 10 assists.

Avery, a forward from Richmond, Va., put forth the best game of his young career against visiting UT Permian Basin, scoring 22 points with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. He was 8-of-10 from the field and added 5-of-7 on free throws to help the Aggies extend their win streak to six games.

Other nominees included: Abilene Christian's Damien Daniels was key off the bench, scoring 17 points and dishing out four assists in a 74-58 win over Longwood … California Baptist's Ty Rowell joined the 1,000-point club with 24 points in an 84-68 win over Southeast Missouri State … Lamar's Jordyn Adams scored 21 points to lead the Cardinals in an 80-77 loss to ULM … NM State's Teddy Allen scored 20 points and brought down nine rebounds as the Aggies improved to 11-2 with an 84-59 win over UT Permian Basin … Sam Houston's Savion Flagg averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Bearkats split a pair of games at the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso … Tarleton's Freddy Hicks put up 11 points with nine rebounds as the Texans earned a 67-45 win over Air Force … Utah Valley's Fardaws Aimaq recorded his national-best 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds in a 68-52 win at Washington.

Other freshman nominees included: California Baptist's Taran Armstrong played just 10 minutes but logged four assists and a steal before exiting early in an 84-68 win over Southeast Missouri State … Chicago State's Jahsean Corbett recorded his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a loss at Iowa State and then added nine points and nine rebounds against Drake … Lamar's Brock McClure scored 12 points and brought down five rebounds in a close 80-77 loss to Louisiana-Monroe.
