TicketSmarter WAC Golfers of the Week Announced

DENVER – Utah Valley's Gabe Lysen and California Baptist's Sofia Chabon have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 3 through Feb. 9.

Lysen, a graduate student from Kirkland, Wash., led the WAC in scoring average through the first tournaments of the season. At the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, he was below par in all three rounds, tying for seventh with a 7-under-par 209. His best round came in the first round, shooting a 4-under-par 68 to lead things off. He followed that up with a 2-under-par 70 and a 1-under-par 71 in the final round secured him the top-10 finish. As a team, the Wolverines finished second out of 12 teams.

Chabon, a sophomore from Northern Mindanao, Phillipines, led all WAC golfers at The Valley Invitational, tying for third place overall with a 10-over-par 226. After shooting an 8-over-par 80 in the opening round, she shaved 10 strokes off her total on the next 18, shooting a 2-under-par 70. She finished up the 54-hole event with a 4-over-par 76 to earn the top-three finish.

Other men's nominees: Dixie State's Aman Uddin finished with 16 birdies to tie for 17th at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational, shooting a 2-under-par 214 … Grand Canyon's Marcus Sundolf led the Lopes at their first tournament of the season, tying for 16th with a 7-over-par 223 at the Orange County Collegiate Classic.

Other women's nominees: Grand Canyon's Madison Voisard picked up a top-5 finish in the first event of the season, tying for fifth with an 11-over-pay 227 at The Valley Invitational … UT Rio Grande Valley's Mercedes Vega led the Vaqueros in her first collegiate event, shooting a 13-over-par 229 at the Texas State Invitational … Utah Valley's Bailey Henley led the Wolverines at the season-opening Valley Invitational by posting a 16th-place finish with a 17-over-par 233.
