Chicago State's Javier Sanchez Pradillo and UT Rio Grande Valley's men's doubles team Zane Kohrs and Luka Jankovic have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week for Feb. 9 through Feb. 15.
Sanchez Pradillo, a junior from Toledo, Spain, went 1-1 on the week to pick up his first singles win of the young season as the Cougars competed against Western Michigan and Creighton. On Friday, Sanchez Pradillo earned a win in flight No. 4 over Creighton's Shin Inoue. He got out of the gate with a 6-4 win in the first set before dropping the second set 4-6. He then fought back to earn the singles point behind a 6-3 win in the third set.
Kohrs, a redshirt junior from Dallas, Texas, and Jankovic, a redshirt freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, won their second match in a row as the Vaqueros battled with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last week. The duo improved to 4-2 on the season after earning the win, 7-5, in a tightly contested doubles match with the Islanders' Ryuya Ata and Nathan Schwartz.
CHICAGO STATE
The Cougars opened up the 2021 season with matches against Western Michigan and Creighton. Chicago State fell 0-7 to Western Michigan, but proved tough in a 2-5 loss to Creighton. Against Creighton, the Cougars fell behind early as they lost the doubles point but bounced back with a pair of singles wins. Javier Sanchez Pradillo earned his first singles win this year behind a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 decision. Pedro Alverez joined Sanchez Pradillo in the win column as he earned his first career win by a score of 3-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3).

The Aggies' best showing came against Arizona State in which they earned a singles win against the Sun Devils. Petr Stavrovskij broke up ASU's shutout bid as he earned the second win of his freshman campaign. He took down Jonah Wilson on line six 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (9-6).
SEATTLE U
The Redhawk men stuck around the Pacific Northwest as they battled with Gonzaga and Washington. Against Gonzaga, Seattle U received a solid showing from the doubles team of Mats Krause and Julian Worn, falling in a tight match 6-7 (7-9). The duo was able to parlay that performance into a win against Washington as they took down UW's Kailuhia Lam and Nikit Reddy (6-3).
