DENVER – NM State's Aidan Thomas and UT Rio Grande Valley's Julie Lucio have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 17 through Feb. 23.

Thomas, a freshman from Albuquerque, N.M., led the Aggies against some tough competition at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, tying for 13th place with a 3-over-par 219. After a 5-over-par 77 to open the tournament, he responded with a 1-over-par 73 in the second round. On the final day, he rattled off seven straight pars and a pair of birdies to go 2-under-par on the front nine and shave one more stroke off par on the back nine to shoot a 3-under-par 69. On the season, he is averaging 74.00 strokes per round.

Lucio, a redshirt sophomore from Brownsville, Texas, led the Vaqueros at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, finishing in a tie for fifth place. After shooting a 5-over-par 77 in the opening round, she shaved off two strokes with a 3-over-par 75 in the second round and went even lower in the final round, firing a 2-over-par 74 to finish 10-over-par for the tournament at 226. On the season, she leads UTRGV with a 76.33 stroke average.

Other men's nominees: Chicago State's Joshua Stig paced the Cougars in their first tournament of the season, taking sixth at the Alabama State Kickoff with a 15-over-par 231 … Grand Canyon's Trevor Lampson led all WAC golfers at The Joust at Goose Creek, tying for seventh place with a 7-over-par 217 ... Utah Valley's Brady McKinlay led the Wolverines at The Joust at Goose Creek, tying for 11th with a 9-over-par 219.

Other women's nominees: Tarleton's Junie Khaw led the Texans in their first Division I tournament, shooting a 13-over-par 229 to tie for eighth at the Islander Classic.
