DENVER – UT Rio Grande Valley senior guard Amara Graham has been named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award®, granted annually to a student-athlete who excels both on and off the court.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be qualified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Graham has earned Dean's list honors six times, Fall AD Honor Roll five times, Spring AD Honor Roll four times and is a three-time Academic All-WAC honoree.

A second-team All-WAC honoree in 2019-20, she has played in 106 career games for the Vaqueros. She was also named to the Preseason All-WAC team to start her senior campaign. The Chicago native is having a career year, averaging 16.7 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 1.2 steals per game to lead UTRGV in all three categories on the season.

Additionally, Graham has spent over 40 hours helping in the community and has helped over 15 organizations, including Special Olympics, Salvation Army, RGV Food Bank, Gencure "Be the Match", Edinburg Children's Hospital, City of Edinburg and City of McAllen.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in late February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will then select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
