TicketSmarter WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER – Utah Valley's Fardaws Aimaq has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for February 22 through February 28.
Aimaq, a redshirt sophomore center from Vancouver, B.C., collected his 13th and 14th double-doubles of the season as the Wolverines earned a home sweep over UT Rio Grande Valley. On Friday night, the big man put up 22 points, including 10-of-13 on free throws, to go with 13 rebounds and a pair of blocks. He followed that up with 16 points and 15 rebounds in Saturday's 73-64 win. On the season, he is averaging an NCAA-best 15.4 rebounds per game, including 15.7 rebounds per game against WAC opponents.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Ty Rowell scored 22 points and dished out five assists in a 78-65 win over Vanguard … Grand Canyon's Asbjørn Midtgaard recorded his fourth and fifth straight double-doubles, averaging 15.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game in a road split at Seattle U … NM State's Johnny McCants averaged 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as the Aggies went on the road and split a pair at Tarleton … Seattle U's Darrion Trammell kept up his impressive scoring, averaging 22.5 points per game as the Redhawks took a win from league-leading Grand Canyon before settling for a series split … Tarleton's Montre' Gipson averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 assists per game as the Texans came back to pick up a home split over NM State … UT Rio Grande Valley's Anthony Bratton had a pair of double-digits scoring games in a pair of losses at Utah Valley.
