GCU Draws Iowa to open NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - After winning their first Hercules Tires WAC Men's Basketball Tournament, the Grand Canyon Lopes learned their NCAA First Round opponent will be Iowa.

The Lopes (17-6, 9-3 WAC) earned the WAC's automatic qualificiation to the NCAA tournament by knocking out rival NM State on Saturday night. GCU is led by 14.0 points and 9.9 rebounds per game from Asbjørn Midtgaard, who also leads Division I with a .710 field goal percentage. Alessandro Lever adds 13.3 points per game and tournament MVP Jovan Blacksher Jr. chips in 11.9 points per game.

Iowa, who earned a two seed, heads to the tournament holding a record of 21-8 overall and 14-6 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes are led by 23.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per gam from consensus All-American Luka Garza. Joe Wieskamp is second in scoring for the team, averaging 14.7 points per game.

The Lopes and Hawkeyes are set to play on Saturday at a time and site to be determined.
