TicketSmarter WAC Golfers of the Week Announced

DENVER – UT Rio Grande Valley's Luca Portelli and Grand Canyon's Payton Fehringer have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for March 10 through March 16.

Portelli, a graduate student from Milan, Italy, was the top WAC finisher at The Big Texan in Kerrville, Texas. After a 1-over-par 73 to open the event, he shot a 3-under-par 69 and then an even-par 72 to take fourth among 55 golfers. On the season, Luca holds a stroke average of 73.2 through 11 rounds, good for sixth in the WAC this year.

Fehringer, a junior from Pocatello, Idaho, earned medalist honors at the Red Rocks Invitational, also leading the Lopes to the team title as well. After opening the tournament with a 4-under-par 68, she went 1-over-par in the second round but rebounded with a 5-under-par 67 in the tournament's final round. With a tournament-best 13 birdies, her 54-hole total was the fourth best in program history. As a team, the Lopes finished tied with Gonzaga but were named winners following a scorecard tiebreaker.

Other men's nominees: Chicago State's Keedan Easley was the Cougars top finisher at the Big Texan, shooting a 16-over-par 232 on the 54-hole event … Dixie State's Josh Pehreson was the top WAC finisher at the Oregon Duck Invitational, shooting an 8-over-par 221 to tie for 18th place … NM State's Albaro Morales and Garrison Smith tied for fifth at the Big Texan, shooting a 1-under-par 215 … Seattle U's Nathan Cogswell led the Redhawks at the Oregon Duck Invitational, shooting a 15-over-par 228 to tie for 47th place.

Other women's nominees: California Baptist's Jocelyn Chee was the top finisher for third-place CBU at the Red Rocks Invitational, shooting a 9-over-par 225 to finish in a tie for 15th-place individually … Dixie State's Tannica Porter shot a 20-over-par 236 to lead the Trailblazers at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. … Seattle U's Kimberlee Tottori earned a top-10 finish at the Red Rocks Invitational, shooting a 5-over-par 221 … Utah Valley's Victoria Estrada was the Wolverines' top finisher, shooting a 22-over-par 238 at the Red Rocks Invitational.
