DENVER – Grand Canyon's Maximilian Moeller and San José State's David Sweeney have been named Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for March 22 through March 28.

Moeller, a freshman forward from Erfurt, Germany, record the Lopes' first hat trick since 2017 in a 5-1 win over Dixie State on Friday. With GCU leading 2-1, he scored his first goal of the game, and third of the season, in the 63rd minute. He followed that up just 97 seconds later with his second goal and just over six minutes later, completed the hat trick with his fifth goal of the season for GCU's fifth goal of the match.

Sweeney, a sophomore goalkeeper from Morgan Hill, Calif., made three saves to earn his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win at California Baptist. On the season, he boasts a 1.10 goals against average and has been in goal for every minute of the Spartans' season.

Other offensive nominees: San José State's Willy Miranda recorded the hat trick, the Spartans' first since 2015, in a 4-0 win at California Baptist … UT Rio Grande Valley's William Akio recorded his third multi-goal match of the season with a pair of goals in the Vaqueros' 3-1 win over Air Force.

Other defensive nominees: Grand Canyon's Pedro Mondrago helped the Lopes defense earn a 5-1 win at home over Dixie State … UNLV's Gabriel Claudio led the Rebels to their fourth shutout in the last six matches with a 1-0 win over California Baptist … UT Rio Grande Valley's Trevor Schneider made two saves in a 3-1 win over Air Force.
