TicketSmarter WAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER – Tarleton's Montre' Gipson has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for March 1 through March 7.
Gipson, a junior guard from DeSoto, Texas, helped the Texans end their inaugural Division I season with a bang, averaging 20.5 points per game in a road sweep at UT Rio Grande Valley. On Friday night, he put up 17 points in a 65-47 win. He stepped up his game on Saturday, putting up 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting and added seven rebounds and give assists in a 69-58 win. On the season, he was fifth in the WAC in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game and he tied for the lead in three-point FG percentage at .500.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Gorjok Gak averaged a double-double with 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in a home split with Seattle U … Dixie State's Cameron Gooden averaged 15.0 points per game as the Trailblazers wrapped up the season with a pair at home against NM State … Grand Canyon's Alessandro Lever put up 16 points on back-to-back nights to help the Lopes secure a share of their first-ever WAC regular season title … NM State's Jabari Rice averaged 15.0 points per game as the Aggies picked up three wins to secure the third-seed at next week's Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas … Seattle U's Darrion Trammell put up 27.0 points per game in a road split at California Baptist … UT Rio Grande Valley's Javon Levi scored a season-high 19 points in the regular season finales, also adding eight rebounds and seven assists … Utah Valley's Evan Cole put up 20 points to go with three steals on Friday night to help UVU clinch a share of the regular season title.
