TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – NM State's Terice Steen and Yemisi Oroyinyin have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 29 through April 4.
Steen, a freshman from Hanover, Jamaica, set a new WAC season-best in the 400m hurdles, taking third at the Masked Rider Open with a time of 59.38. Converted to 59.49 for altitude, her time is more than three seconds faster than anyone else in the WAC this season.
Oroyinyin, a senior from Las Cruces, N.M., finished fifth in the shot put at the Masked Rider Open, hosted by Texas Tech. Her throw of 15.65m ranks second in the WAC this season and was a quarter-meter further than her previous season-best.
Other track nominees: Chicago State's Brenda Jepkoech set a new school record in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.61 to finish 13th at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. … Tarleton's Jenna Brazeal finished fifth in the 1,500m run at the North Texas Classic, posting a time of 4:50.14 … UT Rio Grande Valley's Aviana Goode took second in the 100m hurdles (14.17) and seventh in the 400m run (1:03.18) at the UIW Invitational.
Other field nominees: Tarleton's Gentrye Munden finished third in the high jump at the North Texas Classic, clearing 1.68m … UT Rio Grande Valley's Desirea Buerge won both the shot put (14.99m) and discus (52.62m) at the UIW Invitational.
