TicketSmarter WAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – California Baptist's Florian Le Pallec and Grand Canyon's Jesse Newman have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 12 through April 18.

Le Pallec, a junior from Kervignac, France, set a new season-best in the WAC this season in the 1,500m run, posting a 12th place finish at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 3:46.51. Edging out his own teammate by just a quarter-second, the time was three seconds faster than anyone else in the WAC this season

Newman, a senior from Aloha, Ore., set a new WAC-best in the javelin throw for this season, winning the event at the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational with a throw of 70.20m (230-4). The mark is nearly 40 feet better than any other mark in the WAC this season and also ranks 18th in NCAA Division I this year.

Other track nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Mariano Hernandez took fourth in the 200m dash (21.32) and was on the third-place 4x100m relay team (40.77) at the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational … Utah Valley's Aaron Johnson won both the 100m dash (10.50) and long jump (7.52m) at the Bengal Invitational.

Other field nominees: Tarleton's Oscar Rodriguez took third in the discus (171-3) at Baylor's Michael Johnson Invitational in just his third meet competing in the event at the collegiate level … UT Rio Grande Valley's Paul May won the shot put at the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational with a mark of 18.09m and also posted fifth place finishes in the hammer (57.95m) and discus (50.89m).
