MEN'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: JAN. 5-9
UNLV's Chris Mykkanen and Air Force's Alex Kenyon has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week for Jan. 5 through 9.
 
Mykkanen, a junior from Newport Beach, Calif., went two for two in the Rebels' win over Santa Barbara, Saturday. He posted a win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.85 and another in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:33.57, his times are the 15th and 14th fastest in the WAC for the respective events this season.
 
Kenyon, a freshman from Bloomfield, N.Y., also went two for two in Air Force's double dual win over Colorado Mesa and Mines, Friday. He won the 1-meter dive with a score of 300.30 points and the 3-meter with a score of 371.10, highest score in the WAC for the event this season. 
 
WOMEN'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: JAN. 5-9
Northern Arizona's Maddy Rey and Victoria Knapp has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week for Jan. 5 through 9.
 
Rey, a sophomore from Columba, Ill., led NAU on their travel meet at Arizona, Friday through Saturday. She won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.04 and the 400 individual medley in 4 minutes 31.83 seconds, 15th fastest time in the WAC this season. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:07.31).
 
Knapp, a sophomore from Mesa, Ariz., placed two NCAA Zone qualifying scores in NAU's two-day dual meet at Arizona, Friday through Saturday. She finished fourth overall in the 1-meter with a score of 285.68 and second in the 3-meter with a score of 294.38.
 
OTHER ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Other men's swimmer nominee: Air Force's Wen Zhang won three events in the Falcon's double win this weekend. He picked up wins in the 200 freestyle (1:40.70), 100 freestyle (45.70) and 500 freestyle (4:45.88) …. California Baptist's Remi Fabiani picked up two individual wins on the Lancers' win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripts, Friday. He won the 100 freestyle (46.20) and 200 freestyle (1:41.47).
 
Other men's diver nominees: California Baptist's Jacob Penman won and set two career highs on their win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripts, Saturday. He scored 277.43 points in the 1-meter and 278.78 in the 3-meter.
 
Other women's swimmer nominee: California Baptist's Giulia Decataldo picked up a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:50.32) and tied for second in the 500 freestyle (5:11.55) at the Lancers' win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripts, Friday.
 
Other women's diver nominee: California Baptist's Paula De Moya 
finished first in the 3-meter (257.93) and second in the 1-meter (241.65) contributing to the Lancers' win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripts, Friday.
 
AIR FORCE
The Falcons hosted Colorado Mesa and Mines in for a double dual meet, Friday.
 
AFA came out on top on both ends of the meet. Winning against CMU with 136 to 104 and 146 to 82 over Mines.
 
Swimmer of the week nominee Zhang led the men by winning three individual events. Along with him was Andrew Limpert who won the 50 freestyle (20.64), 100 butterfly (49.80).
 
In diving, the Falcons were led by diver of the week, Kenyon, who swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter.
 
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancers dove into 2022 as hosts to Claremont-Mudd-Scipps, Friday.
 
Both teams added a win on their record with the men scoring 147.5 over CMS's 95.5 and the women 144 to 94.
 
The men were led again by Fabiani who won two individual events. Jacob Leahy was with Fabiani in the sprints, picking up a win in the 50 freestyle (20.77) and a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle (46.90). Robert Moseley covered the longer events as he picked up two individual wins of his own in the 300 individual medley (3:00.31) and the 300 backstroke (2:58.92).
 
Diver of the week nominee, Penman led the divers, sweeping the 3-meter and 1-meter events.
 
The women showed team effort as Faith Brazil, Patricia Van Law, Amber Harris, Mia Maspers, Rebeca Oviedo and swimmer of the week nominee, Dectaldo, each pick up an individual win.
 
The divers followed the trend as diver of the week nominee, De Moya, won the 3-meter while teammate Madison Liu took care of the 3-meter (258.68).
 
NORTHERN ARIZONA
The Lumberjacks travelled to Tucson for an exhibition meet against Arizona, Friday through Saturday.
 
Individual wins came from Casey Craffey in the 1000 freestyle (10:24.23), Hayley Mayhew in the 200 backstroke (2:22.20), Jane Shroufe in the 200 individual medley (2:10.99), and swimmer of the week, Rey, in the 200 freestyle and 400 individual medley.
 
The diving side was led by diver of the week, Knapp, as she finished seventh and fourth in the 1-meter and 3-meter respectively.
 
UNLV
The Rebels came out on top of their home dual meet against Santa Barbara (150-107), Saturday.
 
WAC swimmer of the week, Mykkanen, led the team with two individual wins. Other first place finishes came from Panos Bolanos in the 100 backstroke (49.62) and 200 backstroke (1:47.88), Adnan Beji in the 100 breastroke (56.36) and 200 breastroke (2:03.47), George Ratiu in the 50 freestyle (20.88), Steven Butler in the 100 freestyle (45.83), Cam Castro in the 1000 freestyle (9:22.48) and Bryan Chavez in the 100 butterfly (49.88).
