DENVER – Lamar's George Wheeler and Grand Canyon's Jorden Okyere have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 12 through 16.

Wheeler, a freshman from Milton Keynes, England, won the 3000 meters at the Ted Nelson Invitational, Friday. He renewed his season best to 8:11.19, fastest in the WAC this season and 31st in the NCAA according to the TFFRS Qualifying List.

Okyere, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., placed within top five on two events at the Friday Night Axe 'Em, Friday. He placed third in shot put with a 17.71m (58' 1.25") mark and placed fourth in weight throw by marking 17.82m (58' 5.75"). His performance puts him first place in the WAC season bests according to TFFRS.

 Abilene Christian's Levi Chambers finished first in the 3000 meters (8:48.59) at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, Friday ... Grand Canyon's Jacob Lewis placed second in the mile (4:14.67) at the Friday Night Axe 'Em putting him first in the WAC season rankings, Friday … Seattle U's Alex Franklin placed ninth in the 800 meters (1:54.27) at stacked UW Preview, Saturday … Tarleton's Kevin Baez finished third in the mile (4:20. 63) at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, Friday.
 
Other field nominees: Abilene Christian's Will Harris placed seventh in long jump marking 7.11 meters (23' 4") and ninth in triple jump with a 14.00m (45' 11.25") mark putting him second in the WAC rankings at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, Friday ... Lamar's Elijah Jackson placed second in the high jump marking 1.94m (6' 4.75") at the Ted Nelson Invitational, Friday … Tarleton's Alan Palmer placed third in long jump with a 7.27m (23' 10.25") mark at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, Friday.
