Collins Earns USBWA Tamika Catchings Freshman of the Week Honors
INDIANAPOLIS – After earning her fourth TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball Freshman of the Week honors this season, Chicago State’s Aaliyah Collins was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week.
The native of Snohomish, Wash., put together some of her best scoring efforts of the season. In three games she scored 57 total points (19 ppg) for the Cougars.
She started her week with her first collegiate double-double as she registered a 26-point, 10-rebound effort at Seattle U. Collins has added a pair of blocks and three assists while tallying her career high scoring total.
Collins concluded her week with a 10-point game against UT Rio Grande Valley then went 10-for-16 from the floor during her 23-point performance against Lamar on Saturday. Her 10 made field goals in that contest set a career best mark.
Through 14 games she is averaging 15.9 points per game; the fourth best mark in the WAC. Moreover her 38 total steals also ranks fourth in the conference.
