DENVER – Air Force’s Thaddaeus Dewing and Grand Canyon’s Leon Schmidt have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Dewing, a junior forward, reclaimed the conference season lead in goals with a dynamic performance for 2-0 Air Force. Dewing tallied four goals on five total shots on goal in the pair of Falcon victories. Dewing found the back of the net at 8:46 to open the scoring in a 2-1 Air Force win against California Baptist on Oct. 7. Dewing erupted for a hat trick to cap the weekend against Utah Valley on Oct. 9, scoring in the 14th minute, 74th minute and 78th minute against the run of play for a 3-1 victory.

Schmidt, a sophomore goalkeeper, paced the WAC with eight saves, .889 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average in two starts for GCU last week. Schmidt registered four saves, including three in the second half, to emerge with a 2-1 win over Utah Valley on Oct. 7. Schmidt added four more saves to help GCU earn a 0-0 draw against California Baptist on Oct. 9, the first collegiate clean sheet of his career.
