SPARTANS WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT MATCH, UNBEATEN IN LAST SEVEN
San José State climbed into second place in the WAC outright with a third straight conference win, extending its unbeaten streak to seven consecutive contests overall with a 2-0 victory at Utah Tech on Oct. 16. The Spartans have outscored foes 16-5 during the unbeaten string. Beau Leroux has scored seven goals for San José State in his last seven starts, which has included three match-winners in that span. Goalkeeper David Sweeney has logged three clean sheets and a 0.71 goals-against average during the unbeaten streak.
AIR FORCE RETURNS FROM BYE WEEK ATOP THE WAC
Following an extended 12-day break from competition, Air Force is back on the pitch this week still atop the WAC standings with a 4-0-0 league mark and 12 points. The Falcons own the longest active win streak in the conference at five consecutive matches as of Oct. 19. Air Force and second-place conference squad San José State (3-0-1) are the only two WAC teams who remain unbeaten in league competition ahead of this weekend’s matches.
AIR FORCE’S DEWING FOURTH IN THE NATION IN GOALS
Thanks to a four-goal weekend for Air Force in a pair of victories prior to the bye week, Thaddaeus Dewing remains atop the conference stat standings with 10 goals, 0.91 goals per match and 1.82 points per match. Dewing checked in fourth in goals in the latest NCAA DI national statistics report on Oct. 17, just two goals behind NCAA leader MD Myers (12) from Rutgers.
THE RACE FOR THE CONFERENCE INDIVIDUAL LEAD IN POINTS
As of Oct. 19, Houston Christian’s Bryant Farkarlun maintained his scoring lead in the WAC with eight goals and five assists for 21 points in his first 12 matches of the season. Air Force’s Thaddaeus Dewing (10 goals) was second with 20 points, followed by Grand Canyon’s Shaun Joash (five goals, four assists) and San José State’s Beau Leroux (seven goals) with 14 points.
AIR FORCE, SEATTLE U EACH WITH TOP 25 NATIONAL STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE TOTALS
In the latest NCAA RPI report that was released on Oct. 16, Air Force and Seattle U each boasted opponent success rankings in the top 25 in the country. Air Force has faced the 18th-ranked schedule thus far this season, with Seattle U checking in 23rd in NCAA DI.
