AIR FORCE ROLLS FORWARD WITH SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN, UNBEATEN LEAGUE RECORD
Air Force returned from its bye week with two more wins, improving to 6-0 in WAC play and running its current winning streak to seven matches overall. The Falcons downed UTRGV 2-1 on Oct. 21 and Houston Christian 3-1 on Oct. 23 in a pair of road tilts. Air Force has outscored opponents 16-5 during its current unbeaten streak, scoring multiple goals in six straight matches, to officially clinch a spot in the 2022 WAC Men’s Soccer Championship. The Falcons are set for their 10th all-time appearance at the WAC tournament, with a combined 7-7-2 (.500) record and a conference tournament title in the spring of 2021.
SPARTANS ON THE VERGE OF WAC TOURNAMENT BERTH
San José State is on the verge of sewing up a berth into the 2022 WAC Men’s Soccer Championship after registering results in eight of its last nine matches overall. The Spartans are 4-1-1 in conference play and sat second on the WAC table with 13 points ahead of its Oct. 28 contest at current top squad Air Force. San José State has previously competed nine times at the WAC Men’s Soccer Championship, reaching the final in 2013, 2017 and 2018.
CBU HITTING ITS STRIDE AT THE RIGHT TIME
California Baptist has rattled off three consecutive wins in WAC matches, and four results over its past five starts, to climb into a tie for the fifth position in the conference standings. The Lancers outpointed Houston Christian 2-0 at home on Oct. 15 and earned road wins at San José State (1-0 on Oct. 21) and Seattle U (3-1 on Oct. 23) during the streak.
HCU’s AITKEN A STALWART IN GOAL
As of the NCAA DI national statistics report that was released on Oct. 24, Houston Christian goalkeeper Alex Aitken ranked second in the country in saves (77) and goalkeeper minutes played (1511:00). Aitken is the only goalkeeper in the WAC with multiple 10-plus save performances thus far this season after logging 11 at Oral Roberts on Sept. 9 and 10 at Utah Valley on Oct. 13.
ALL 10 WAC TEAMS BATTLING FOR A CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT BID
Ahead of the upcoming conference slate of matches on Oct. 28, all 10 teams in the WAC remain mathematically in the running to be among the six teams in the field at the 2022 WAC Men’s Soccer Championship. Seattle U is the active conference leader with five tournament championships (2013, ‘15, ‘17, ‘19, Fall ‘21) since joining the WAC.
