TicketSmarter WAC Volleyball Players Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas–Utah Valley’s Avery Shewell and Caleigh Vagana have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Grand Canyon’s Tatum Parrott has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Freshman Player of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Shewell, a freshman outside hitter,had 23 kills and averaged 3.29 kills per set for UVU and added three service aces, 12 digs, and three block assists. Shewell had nine kills and hit .571 in the three-set victory at Tarleton along with two service aces, two block assists, and three digs in the match. Shewell added 14 kills against ACU with a .357 hitting percentage as UVU dropped the first set but then took the next three. Shewell added nine digs, a block assist, and a service ace in the win.
Vagana, a sophomore middle blocker, Vagana had three digs, one solo block and 12 block assists to average 1.86 blocks per set. Vagana had eight block assists against Tarleton which led Utah Valley to 18 block assists in the match. Against Abilene Christian, she added a solo block with four block assists to help Utah Valley rally for a 3-1 victory against ACU.
Parrott, an outside hitter, had a.632 hitting percentage against Sam Houston on Saturday. Parrott also averaged four kills per set, three service aces, and scored 16 points with anaverage of 5.33 points per set.
