DENVER – Utah Valley's Faith Webber and NM State’s Makenna Gottschalkhave been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Oct. 3.
Webber, a sophomore forward, scored three second-half goals, including the game winner to help Utah Valley erase a 3-0 second half deficit to come back and defeat California Baptist, 4-3. Webber became just the seventh player in Utah Valley history to record a hat trick, which marked the first hat trick for UVU since the 2018 season. Webber then scored the equalizer after falling behind 1-0 at Grand Canyon to help the Wolverines come back and defeat the ‘Lopes 2-1. On the week, Webber had four goals, eight points, 14 shots, 11 shots on goal, and one game winner as Utah Valley went 2-0 in WAC play.
Gottschalk, a graduate goalkeeper, recorded two saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season against Tarleton on Sept. 30, playing the full 90 minutes. Gottschalk tallied five saves on six shots on goal against Abilene Christian to account for her sixth shutout of the season. Gottschalk is second in the conference in shutouts with six after tallying her second back-to-back shutout performance this season. Gottschalk is averaging 4.00 saves per game with a total of 48 on the season making her second in the conference.
