TicketSmarter WAC Cross Country Athletes Of The Week Announced
DENVER – Southern Utah’s Santiago Gaitan and Utah Valley’s Everlyn Kemboi have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Cross Country Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Gaitan, a sophomore, was among 209 runners who took part in the Men’s Blue 5 Mile at the prestigious Joe Piane Invitational at the Burke Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana on Sept. 30. Gaitan crossed the finish line in 31st place with a time of 23:59.7, within 30 seconds of the lead pack. Gaitan averaged an even 4:48.0 per mile.
Kemboi, a senior, established a new collegiate record in the 48th annual Paul Short Run at the Goodman Campus XC Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Sept. 30. Kemboi’s winning time of 19:33.0 in the Women’s College Gold Race 6K bested the meet record by four seconds. Kemboi averaged 5:14.6 per mile during the race.
