ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Shaun Joash and Leon Schmidt have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Joash, a senior forward, tallied seven points over a pair of wins last weekend for GCU to clinch a berth into the 2022 WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Joash tallied a hat trick with goals at 9:03, 60:44 and 68:23 to key a 4-1 win for the Lopes at Seattle U on Oct. 28. Joash then served the secondary assist on the lone GCU goal in a competitive 1-0 win at San José State on Oct. 30. Joash is the conference leader with 11 goals and 28 points this season as of Nov. 1.
Schmidt, a sophomore goalkeeper, turned in solid performances in both victories for GCU on the road last week. Schmidt made three saves in the second half against a potent Seattle U offense in the 4-1 win on Oct. 28 before adding five saves (three in the second half) in a 1-0 clean sheet against San José State on Oct. 30.
