ARLINGTON, Texas –Utah Tech’s Breaunna Gillen was named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Grand Canyon’s Alaina Harper was named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, for the competition week ending on Nov. 13.
Gillen, a senior guard, ended the first week of action averaging a double-double of 19 points and 10.5 assists per game. Gillen shot 43 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line. She totaled 21 assists and five rebounds from both games last week .Against Washington, Gillen finished with 21 points and 11 assists with one steal. In the contest against Benedictine Mesa, she tallied 17 points, ten assists and a steal.
Harper, a freshman forward, provided valuable minutes off the bench for Grand Canyon in its two victories last week, averaging 7.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Harper had six points and six rebounds including four offensivereboundsin her collegiate debut vs. Arizona Christian.Harper had an eight-point, seven rebound performancein 10 minutes of action vs. Grambling State. Harper is tied for second on the team in total rebounds (13) and is first in offensive boards with seven.
