UTRGV EARNS NO. 1 SEED IN WAC TOURNMENT
UTRGV closed the regular season with a 13-1 WAC record and 24-5 overall record securing the No. 1 seed in the WAC tournament. The Vaqueros led the WAC in team assists (1,387), team digs (1,677), team kills (1,498) and team total attacks (3,937) during the regular season as they secured their second WAC regular-season title.
UTRGV WINS THREE OF FIVE MAJOR AWARDS
Sarah Cruz was named WAC Player of the Year while fellow Vaquero Luanna Emiliano was named WAC Setter of the Year. UTRGV head coach, Todd Lowery was named WAC Coach of the Year after leading his squad to a 13-1 WAC record and 24-5 overall record.
WAC TOURNAMENT SEEDING
UTRGV claimed the No. 1 overall seed followed by Stephen F. Austin as the No. 2 seed. Grand Canyon (No. 3), Utah valley (No. 4) and UT Arlington (No.5) round out the top five seeds. NM State earned the sixth seed along with California Baptist (No. 7) and Southern Utah (No. 8) rounding out the tournament field of eight.
ALL ROADSS LEAD TO EDINBURG
The 2022 WAC Volleyball Tournament opens this week in Edinburg, Texas. The top eight teams will compete in a single elimination tournament at UTRGV in three days of action. Quarterfinals will take place on Nov. 17 with semifinals on Friday and the championship match on Nov. 19.
