ARLINGTON, Texas –Grand Canyon’s Evan Zars and Alaina Harper have been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Player and Freshman of the Week, for the competition week ending on Nov. 27.
Zars, a graduate forward, had a terrific weekend in the two-game GCU Classic, totaling 37 points, 18 rebounds, four steals while shooting 15-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three. Zars recorded her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a 73-60 victory over North Dakota. Zars tallied 15 points, six boards and three steals a day later in a victory over Lindenwood. Zars is second in the WAC in double-digit rebound games (3) and is second in the conference in rebounds per game (8.8).
Harper, a forward, totaled 24 points, six rebounds and shot 10-of-13 from the floor in the two-game GCU Classic. She had a breakout game Saturday vs. Lindenwood, scoring a game-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting with four rebounds in 17 minutes of play. Harper is second on the team in rebounds per game (4.6).
