TicketSmarter WAC Tennis Athletes of the Month Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas– Tarleton’s women’s singles player Celia Vaudiua and women’s doubles team Elsa Boisson and Ximena Morales, Grand Canyon’s Jonathan Silva and UTRGV’s men’s doubles team of Emilien Burnel and Borna Devald have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Month for October.
Vaudiua, a senior from Blanzy, France, went 5-0 in October, going 2-0 at Midwestern State, and 3-0 at the UIW Cardinal Classic last weekend to win the Singles D draw. Vaudiua won the flight with victories over ASU’s Bowers 6-0 6-1, UTRGV’s Mamicova 6-0 6-1, and New Mexico State’s Bishard 6-1 6-1.
Boisson, a junior from Fontenay-le-Comte, France, and Morales, a freshman from Guatemala, went 4-0 in October, winning their lone match at Midwestern State, following up with a 3-0 performance at the UIW Cardinal Classic last weekend to win the Doubles B draw. The duo won the flight with victories over New Mexico State’s Nguyen/Cartis 6-1, ASU’s Rodriguez/Visnevskaya 6-3, and ASU’s Guler/Irrinki 6-0.
Silva, a sophomore from Saint Barthelemy, France, defeated Eric Silberman from UC San Diego 7-5, 6-3 and lost to Andre Ilagan from Hawaii 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 At the ITA Southwest Regional.
Burnel, a junior from La Teste-De-Bush, France, and Devald, a sophomore from Zagreb, Croatia, went 1-1 at the ITA Texas Regional. The duo earned an 8-4 victory over UTSA’s Garrett Skelly/Andrew Keene in the Main Draw Round of 64. They dropped an 8-6 battle to Texas A&M’s Stefan Storch/Matthis Ross in the Round of 32.
