SEATTLE, Washington – The three-seed NM State opened day two of the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer tournament with a 1-0 victory over the two-seed Seattle U at Championship Field Stadium in Seattle, Washington on campus of Seattle U.
NM State was the first team to ensure a spot in the tournament final, where they will face the winner of the Utah Valley vs Grand Canyon match. It was a defensive battle through 84 minutes of play before a penalty kick by Tati Jerman gave the Aggies the 1-0 advantage.
The second match of the day featured the fifth-seed Grand Canyon against the number one-seed Utah Valley. The Lopes scored two goals in the first half taking a 2-0 lead into the break. Utah Valley returned to action in the second half to prove why they were the number one overall seed in the tournament.
Utah Valley would go on to tie the game in regulation on goals by Faith Webber and Jenna Shepherd to force overtime. Webber would score her second goal of the match during the second overtime period to secure a spot in the WAC Championship.
The stage is set for Sunday as it will be the NM State Aggies versus the Utah Valley Wolverines for the WAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. CST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
