ARLINGTON, Texas – UTRGV’s Michael Washington and San José State’s David Sweeney have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Washington, a junior forward, made the most of his time as a key substitute for UTRGV in a 3-0 win against Houston Christian to close the 2022 season on Nov. 5. Washington played 26 minutes and picked up the primary assist on Vaquero goals at 68:55, 73:17 and 89:38 to guide the home side to victory.

Sweeney, a senior goalkeeper, stood tall for San José State in the second half of a 1-0 shutout against Seattle U on Nov 5 to clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Sweeney registered six saves, including five in the second half, to preserve his sixth solo clean sheet of the season.
