TicketSmarter WAC Football Players Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Tech’s Rickie Johnson, Syrus Webster and Connor Brooksby have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Football Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Johnson, a junior wide receiver, erupted for nine receptions, 277 receiving yards and three touchdowns for Utah Tech in a 48-36 home win over rival Southern Utah on Nov. 5. Johnson covered 79 yards on his first scoring catch at the end of the first quarter, added a 6-yard touchdown with seven seconds left in the first half to give the Trailblazers a 27-22 halftime lead and registered a 75-yard touchdown grab near the end of the third quarter to vault Utah Tech ahead 41-29. Johnson’s yardage and touchdown totals were both single-game highs in the WAC this season.
Webster, a sophomore defensive lineman, tallied four tackles, which included 3.0 sacks, and forced a fumble for the Utah Tech defense in the win against Southern Utah. Webster’s first two sacks came immediately after Southern Utah chunk plays to stall Thunderbird drives, and his final sack was the final play from scrimmage in the game. Webster’s 3.0 sacks tied the conference single-game statistical high thus far in 2022.
Brooksby, a sophomore kicker, connected on both of his field goal attempts and went a perfect 6-for-6 on PATs for Utah Tech in the Southern Utah victory. Brooksby’s 55-yard field goal in the second quarter was both a school record and the longest made field goal in the WAC thus far this season.
